Harold Goldstein (später Gould) wurde 1925 in Schnectady, Staat New York, geboren. Er war ein Meisterschüler bereits in der High School und war Mitglied der Theatergruppe. Aber er wollte immer Lehrer werden, und nach seinem Abitur besuchte er zwei Jahre lang das Albany State Teachers College. Er beendete sein Studium vorerst, um als Soldat nach Europa zu gehen. Zuerst wurde er an der Front in Frankreich stationiert, wo er am Bein verletzt wurde und darauf nach England gebracht wurde, um sich zu erholen. Nach der Genesung wieder zurück in Frankreich, diente er bis zum Ende des Krieges und kehrte somit 1945 in die USA zurück. Zurück am Albany State Teachers College begann Gould Theaterwissenschaften zu studieren. Daneben spielte er in verschiedenen, kleineren Provinztheater und machte dann sein Masters und Doktor in Theaterliteratur und Sprecherziehung an der Cornell University. Dort lernte er auch seine Frau Lea kennen, mit der er bis heute verheiratet ist. Seine erste Stelle als Lehrer erhielt er in Virginia, wo er neben dem Unterrichten weiterhin auf kleinen Bühnen zu sehen war. 1956 erhielt er eine Stelle an der UC-Riverside in Südkalifornien und siedelte mit seiner Frau an die Westküste um. Er blieb an der UC-Riverside bis 1960, als er sich entschloss, ins nahe gelegene Los Angeles umzuziehen, um sich als professioneller Schauspieler zu versuchen. Aber aller Anfang war schwer. Gould erhielt zunächst nur kleine Rollen in Fernsehserien und B-Filmen, arbeitete als Statist, für den Staat, als Security Guard und unterrichtete Kurse an der UCLA um sich und seine Frau zu ernähren. Erst ab Mitte der 60iger erhielt er regelmässig Arbeit als Schauspieler und arbeitete von nun an in unzähligen Fernsehserien (darunter Klassikern wie „Mister Ed“, „Perry Mason“, „Kimble auf der Flucht“, „Bezaubernde Jeannie“, „The Jack Benny Programm“ etc.). 1966 erhielt er eine bessere Nebenrolle in dem All-Star-Vehicle „Harper“ („Ein Fall für Harper“, mit Lauren Bacall, Paul Newman, Janet Leigh, Julie Harris, Shelley Winters, Robert Wagner etc.). Drei Jahre später spielte er bereits unter der Regie von Elia Kazan in „The Arrangement“ („Das Arrangement“, 1969, mit Kirk Douglas und Faye Dunaway) und 1973 war er Kid Twist in dem heutigen Kultfilm „The Sting“ („Der Clou“, mit Robert Redford und Paul Newman). Auch TV-Arbeit kriegte er mehr als genug: „The Mary Taylor Moore Show“, „Hawaii Five-O“, „Die Strassen von San Francisco“ und „Love Boat“ sind nur einige wenige Serien in denen er des öfteren auftrat. 1985 war Harold Gould in der dritten Episode der ersten Staffel der „Golden Girls“ als Arnie Peterson zu sehen, und ab 1990 bis zum Ende der Show 1992 war Gould regelmässig als Roses Freund Miles (der sich dann als Nicholas Carbone entpuppt) zu sehen. Während den 80iger Jahren war er zudem in unzähligen Fernsehfilmen zu sehen und erst Mitte 90iger Jahre trat er wieder vermehrt in Kinofilmen auf: „Patch Adams“ (1998), „Stuart Little“ (1999) und „Freaky Friday“ (2003) um einige zu nennen. Harold Gould lebt mit seiner Frau Lea in Los Angeles und ist weiterhin ein aktiver Schauspieler in Film und Fernsehen.
Harold Gould, der in den Golden Girls Rose's Liebhaber Miles Webber spielte, ist am 11. September 2010 im Alter von 86 Jahren verstorben. Er erlag einem Krebsleiden.

Harold Gould wurde 86 Jahre alt!
